Alexander Schmid (born 1998 in Stephanskirchen, Bavaria) is a versatile conductor with a strong affinity for music theatre. He began leading choirs and orchestras while still at the musically oriented Ignaz-Günther-Gymnasium in Rosenheim, laying the foundation for his artistic path at an early age.
He studied orchestral conducting at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. His musical development was shaped by mentors such as Prof. Lancelot Fuhry and Prof. Martin Steidler. He also received important artistic impulses from renowned conductors including Toby Purser, Daniel Oren, Evan Alexis Christ, and Cornelia von Kerssenbrock.
Schmid gained his first experience in musical theater as a teenager, conducting a production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the age of 17. Since then, he has steadily expanded his repertoire in opera and musical theatre, while also exploring symphonic and contemporary works.
He has collaborated with ensembles such as the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, the Silesian Philharmonic Katowice, the State Opera Stara Zagora (Bulgaria), and the Bavarian Young Ensemble for New Music (JU[MB]LE).
Since the 2018 season, Schmid has been Music Director of the publicly funded theatre INNszenierung Rosenheim. There, he is also active as a composer of theatre music. His opera debut came with Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. In 2023, he conducted the world premiere of Krabat – A Magic Play, a commission by the municipality of Stephanskirchen.
